Mike Brey is reportedly nearing the end of a legendary run as Notre Dame’s basketball coach.
Tom Noie of the South Bend Tribune reports that Brey will inform his team after practice that he will be retiring at the end of this season.
Brey, Notre Dame’s coach since 2000, is the winningest coach in program history with 481 victories. Entering the 2022-23 campaign, Brey had led Notre Dame to postseason play 18 times, including 13 NCAA tournament berths, 3 Sweet 16 trips and 2 Elite Eight appearances. The Irish won the 2015 ACC Tournament.
At Notre Dame, Brey was t
he recipient of both the Associated Press and the Henry Iba/USBWA National Coach of the Year award after leading the Irish to a 27-7 record for the 2011 campaign. He was also recognized as Big East Coach of the Year in 2007 and ’08.
Notre Dame reached the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32 in 2022. This year, the Irish are currently 9-10 overall and 1-7 in ACC play.
