It appears Notre Dame is in great position to land 5-star quarterback prospect CJ Carr.

Carr visited South Bend last week and was impressed with coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Now, one of the nation’s leading recruiting experts is projecting him to pick Notre Dame.

247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong put in a “Crystal Ball projection” for Notre Dame earlier this week. Another expert has predicted Carr will pick Michigan, but that projection was submitted in December of 2021. Wiltfong is 247Sports’ director of recruiting.

In addition to Michigan, Carr also has offers from programs like Michigan State, Georgia and Miami.

Carr is the No. 5 quarterback in the country for the class of 2024, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 player from the state of Michigan.

Notably, Carr is the grandson of former longtime Michigan coach Llyod Carr. He spent nearly 4 decades in Ann Arbor, serving as an assistant from 1980-94 and then as head coach from 1995-2007.

There is no timetable for Carr’s commitment.

Notre Dame is also still pursuing another 5-star quarterback from Michigan in the class of 2023. The Fighting Irish are the favorites to land Dante Moore, who could announce a final decision in the coming weeks.
