Notre Dame will be a sizable underdog to Ohio State in the Week 1 matchup.

Circa Sports released the betting lines for the Notre Dame-Ohio State game and the Fighting Irish were a 15-point underdog heading into the matchup.

The moneyline has Notre Dame listed as a +480 underdog. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are -625 on the money line. The total is set at 58.5.

Even though Notre Dame was 3 spots away from Ohio State in the AP preseason poll, the Fighting Irish are not expected to beat Ohio State in Columbus.

That game will be Marcus Freeman’s regular season debut as Notre Dame’s head coach. Freeman served as the head coach for Notre Dame’s Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma State on Jan. 1.

Notre Dame has a talented roster that will look to compete with Ohio State for 60 minutes. It was announced on Sunday that Tyler Buchner would be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

In 2021, Buchner played in 10 games for Notre Dame. He will have his biggest test as a sophomore quarterback against Ohio State. He will rely on his receiving corps to keep up with Ohio State’s potent offense. Look for Buchner to rely on wide receiver Lorenzo Styles and tight end Michael Mayer to move the ball.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 3.
