Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington is a candidate for the head coaching job at Boston College, according to a college football insider.
The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman published his list of candidates for the BC job
on Thursday morning. Washington, a former Boston College player and coach, made the cut.
Here’s some analysis on Washington’s candidacy from Feldman:
Washington played and coached at BC. The 39-year-old Ohio native was a three-year starter for the Eagles and later coached on both sides of the ball for BC. After leaving Boston College, he coached at Cincinnati, Michigan and Ohio State before Marcus Freeman hired him in South Bend. Washington was a candidate for the job the last time it opened and might make a lot of sense now.
Washington, 39, would be replacing Jeff Hafley as Boston College’s head coach. Hafley departed the job on Wednesday for the defensive coordinator p
osition with the Green Bay Packers.
Washington has spent the past two seasons as Notre Dame’s defensive line coach. He was previously an assistant at Ohio State.
Washington played defensive tackle at Boston College from 2002-05. He was also a coach in Chestnut Hill from 2012-16, most recently as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach.
