Notre Dame broadcast analyst Jason Garrett is a finalist for Stanford’s head coaching job, according to a report.
That’s according to The Athletic, who is citing sources:
Garrett has never been a college f
ootball coach, but he has extensive NFL experience. He was an NFL coach (assistant or head coach) from 2005-2021. Most notably, he was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2011-19.
He just wrapped up his first season with NBC as the game analyst for Notre Dame football. He partnered with Notre Dame alum Jac Collinsworth in the booth.
If Garrett does get the Stanford job, NBC will be looking for a new g
ame analyst. There’s been heavy turnover with this job in recent years. Collinsworth replaced Mike Tirico in 2022. Drew Brees served as an analyst in 2021, but departed NBC before this season began.
Garrett was also in the mix to be named Duke head coach last season. Instead, the Blue Devils hired ACC Coach of the Year Mike Elko.
Stanford is expected to make a decision on its next head coach in the coming days.
