Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly gives high praise to Jack Coan after Georgia Tech victory

Notre Dame dominated Georgia Tech 55-0 on Saturday night, and quarterback Jack Coan was a big reason why.

Coan completed 15-of-20 passes for 285 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win, with all of that yardage coming before halftime. The Fighting Irish were up 45-0 at the break, so Coan played just one series in the second half.

While Coan has taken some criticism at times this season, he’s now led Notre Dame to a fifth straight 10-win season. He seems to be getting better as the season goes on — this was his third time clearing 200 yards in the last four games and his highest yardage total since throwing for 366 yards in the season opener vs. Florida State.

After the game, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly didn’t hesitate to praise his starting quarterback.

“He can make a mistake and it doesn’t phase him at all,” Kelly said after the win. He also singled out Coan for his football IQ and his experience.

Coan now has just 18 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions on the season. He has the Fighting Irish in position to rise as high as No. 6 in next week’s College Football Playoff rankings.

If things break right for Notre Dame over the final two weeks, it could find itself in the College Football Playoff this season.

Notre Dame faces Stanford in its regular season finale next week.
