Notre Dame comes up short against USC on the road

Notre Dame fell to USC 38-27 on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The Notre Dame offense had one of its best games of the season, with Drew Pyne throwing for 318 yards on 26 attempts. B

ut a pair of turnover by Pyne and poor play on defense ultimately sunk the Fighting Irish’s chances.

Pyne fumbled in the first half and threw an interception in the second half. Both of those turnovers led to 14 points for USC, which was ultimately the difference in the game. The Irish also turned it over on downs once.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams was sensational. He threw for 232 yards and one touchdown, b

ut his biggest impact came on the ground.

He rushed for three scores and was constantly able to evade Notre Dame’s pressure. The Fighting Irish’s defensive front was credited with two sacks, eight tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries. But those were all mere setbacks for the Trojans, who gained 7.1 yards per play.

Notre Dame ends the season with an 8-4 record. The Fighting Irish will learn their bowl destination next weekend.
