Notre Dame landed in the top 10 of ESPN’s updated Football Power Index offseason rankings, which were updated on Tuesday morning.

The Fighting Irish have a rating of 18.4, which is good enough for No. 9 overall in FPI’s latest update. Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Michigan, USC and Clemson all rank above Notre Dame. Penn State rounds out the top 10.

Notre Dame is coming off of an up-and-down season in 2022. The Irish went 9-4 last year, which was Marcus Freeman’s 1st season at the helm. Notre Dame finished the season ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll.

The Irish have made several intriguing transfer portal additions this offseason, led by quarterback Sam Hartman. He arrives in South Bend as the ACC’s all-time leader in touchdown passes. Hartman is likely a big reason why Notre Dame sits in the top 10 ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Notre Dame also returns potential All-Americans such as Joe Alt, Logan Diggs and Benjamin Morrison.

It’s worth noting that Notre Dame will face a very difficult schedule in 2023. The Irish have games against 3 teams ranked above them in FPI’s offseason ranking: Ohio State, USC and Clemson.

Notre Dame will play its annual spring game on Saturday.
