Notre Dame earned a massive commitment on Thursday evening.

5-star quarterback CJ Carr chose the Fighting Irish in a ceremony on CBS HQ. A Michigan native, Carr chose the Irish over Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Georgia and LSU.

Carr is an elite prospect in the class of 2024. He’s ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 player from the state of Michigan.

This commitment continues a strong recruiting trend for Notre Dame since Marcus Freeman arrived on staff. The Irish currently have the No. 1 class in the country for the 2023 cycle.

It will be interesting to see how — if at all — Carr’s commitment impacts the recruitment of 2023 5-star quarterback Dante Moore. Freeman and Tommy Rees are still recruiting Moore, who is near the top of a loaded quarterback class in that cycle.

Carr is the grandson of former longtime Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. He lives in Saline, Michigan.

Notre Dame now has 3 commitments in the class of 2024.
