Notre Dame enters Syracuse matchup with a dominant history vs. ACC opponents

Notre Dame has had very little trouble with ACC opposition in recent years.

Dating back to the beginning of the 2021 season, the Fighting Irish have won six consecutive games against ACC programs. They have also out-performed expectation in those games, covering the spread in five of them.

That stretch includes wins over North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia Tech.

Notre Dame’s last loss to an ACC team came against Clemson in the 2020 conference championship game. Notre Dame also lost to the Tigers in the 2018 College Football Playoff. But in the regular season, the Irish haven’t lost to an ACC squad since Nov. 11, 2017 when Miami took them down 41-8.

Specifically against Syracuse, Notre Dame has also been great. The Irish have won four games in t

his series — a streak that pre-dates the Orange’s jump to the ACC. Syracuse’s last win over Notre Dame was in 2008.

Notre Dame will be looking for its second straight win overall this weekend. The Irish defeated UNLV back in Week 8 and are on track for bowl eligibility. However, earning a ranked victory over the Orange would certainly help Marcus Freeman’s program re-claim some of the momentum that was lost in defeats vs. Marshall and Stanford.

Kickoff vs. Syracuse is at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
