Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli made his first career start on Friday against Oregon State in the Sun Bowl.

Angeli had a strong showing as he threw for 232 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 19 pass attempts. Angeli was filling in for Sam Hartman, who opted out of the game as he prepares for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Here are a couple of highlights from his performance:

It was a big moment for Angeli to show off how he’s developed as a passer over the past couple of years in Notre Dame’s system. Angeli arrived in South Bend as a 4-star recruit in the class of 2022 but had just 25 total pass attempts in his career entering this game.

It remains to be seen what kind of an impact this performance will have on Angeli’s future. Notre Dame has already brought in former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard from the transfer portal this offseason. With Leonard likely to start, Angeli would likely have a difficult path to playing time in 2024.

If Angeli does decide to enter the transfer portal to pursue a starting job this offseason, he will have to do so relatively soon. The transfer portal window will close on Jan. 2 and will not re-open until after spring practice.

Here’s some of the best reaction to Angeli’s big game vs. Oregon State:
