Notre Dame freshman running back Jadarian Price will miss the 2022 season, the program announced on Friday morning.

Price suffered a ruptured achilles tendon and had surgery on Friday morning, per the team.

Price wasn’t expected to be a first-choice option for the Fighting Irish this season, but this is still a devastating injury. He was considered to be quality depth for Notre Dame’s due of Chris Tyree and Logan Diggs. The Irish also still have Audric Estime and Gi’Bran Payne in the reserves as well.

This injury adds another question mark to a backfield that was already tasked with replacing Kyren Williams. Williams games over 1,000 scrimmage yards in each of the past 2 seasons.

Price was a big recruiting pickup for Notre Dame in the 2022 cycle. He was ranked as the No. 201 player and the No. 17 running back nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s originally from Denison, Texas.

Notre Dame opens the 2022 season with Ohio State on Sept. 3.
