Notre Dame has epic celebration after making 1st College World Series in 20 years

The drought is over.

Notre Dame punched its ticket to Omaha on Sunday afternoon, beating No. 1 Tennessee in the Knoxville Super Regional, 7-3.

This is the Irish’s first trip to the College World Series since 2002 and just their trip appearance all-time. Their lone other trip to Omaha came in 1957.

Here’s Notre Dame’s celebration in Knoxville after ending the game on a 5-4-3 double play:

This is a huge moment for Notre Dame’s program, which has improved in recent years under Link Jarrett. Last season, Notre Dame won the ACC regular season title and a regional — but wasn’t able to make it to Omaha.

Notre Dame’s pitching staff got off to a rocky start in Game 3 vs. t

he Vols, but it settled just in time. Jack Findlay threw 5 scoreless innings to close the game, allowing just 1 hit in that span.

The middle of Notre Dame’s order — Carter Putz, Jack Zyska and David LaManna — combined to drive in 6 of the Irish’s 7 runs. That trio went 5-for-12 with 1 home run and 2 doubles.

Notre Dame will face the winner of the East Carolina-Texas Super Regional in the first round of the College World Series next weekend.
