Notre Dame is not giving up in the fight for 5-star defensive back Peyton Bowen.

According to multiple reports, Bowen is expected to visit South Bend this weekend for the Clemson game. Bowen is currently committed to Notre Dame, but recruiting analysts have been skeptical of his status for months.

However, his pending visit to South Bend is a major development in his recruitment. It gives Notre Dame a chance to make another pitch to its 5-star commit.

Bowen is a Texas native and has already taken his official visit to South Bend, so getting him back on campus for a game this fall was not a guarantee. Recently, he’s been taking trips to more regional programs like Texas A&M and Oklahoma. He also took an unofficial visit to Oregon in October.

Bowen is Notre Dame’s top-ranked commitment in the class of 2023. He is the No. 24 overall player and the No. 2 safety in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 5 player from the state of Texas.

Notre Dame’s status in the top five of national recruiting class rankings likely depends on whether or not it can secure Bowen’s signature on signing day.

Notre Dame currently has 23 commitments in the class of 2023. The group ranks No. 3 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Early Signing Period is in December.
