Notre Dame is still in the top 25 of ESPN’s FPI rankings

Notre Dame experienced a disastrous 26-21 home loss to Marshall in Week 2, yet ESPN still has the Fighting Irish in its top 25 of the football power index.

Notre Dame fell 12 spots to be ranked at No. 18 after Week 2 of the 2022 season, per FPI. ESPN’s model gives Notre Dame just a 1.6% chance of winning the rest of its regular season games.

According to ESPN’s FPI, Notre Dame is projected to finish with a 7.1-4.9 record, adjusting to finish the regular season 7-5. The next team to finish with the same record or worse is Maryland, who is No. 28 in ESPN’s FPI.

One of the biggest reasons why Notre Dame is off to a 0-2 start is the lack of productivity on the offensive side of the ball

. Notre Dame is averaging 15.5 points per game, which is No. 116 in the nation.

This was the first time in program history that Notre Dame faced Marshall.

Notre Dame hosts Cal in Week 3.
