Notre Dame was well-represented on Pro Football Focus’ preseason All-America teams, which were released on Monday afternoon.

The Fighting Irish have 3 players named across PFF’s 3 preseason All-America teams. The list is headlined by first-team center Jarrett Patterson. Tight end Michael Mayer made the second team and defensive back Brandon Joseph is on the third team.

Patterson is back in South Bend after putting together an All-America calibre season in 2021. He started all 13 games for the Fighting Irish last season.

Mayer is one of the top tight ends in the country. He lost out on a spot on the first team to Georgia’s Brock Bowers, who is coming off a standout performance in the National Championship Game. Last season, Mayer had 71 catches for 840 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Joseph is a transfer from Northwestern. He’s a former freshman All-American and has proven himself as one of the best safeties in the country. Joseph has the tough task of replacing Kyle Hamilton in Notre Dame’s secondary.

Additionally, guard Josh Lugg and EDGE Isaiah Foskey were honorable mentions. Notre Dame was one of 5 teams to have at least 5 players make one of the All-America teams or be honorable mention.

Notre Dame opens the 2022 season at Ohio State on Sept. 3.
