Notre Dame earned a commitment from Wake Forest transfer Sam Hartman on Thursday afternoon.

Hartman, the ACC’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns, visited South Bend on Thursday.

Here’s his announcement:

Hartman is transferring to Notre Dame for his final season of eligibility. Over the past five seasons at Wake Forest, Hartman threw a league-record 110 touchdown passes and led the Demon Deacons to the 2021 ACC Championship Game.

Wake Forest has made seven consecutive bowl appearances in-part because of Hartman’s production and leadership during his career in Winston-Salem.

Over the past two seasons, Hartman has thrown for 77 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. The Demon Deacons are 19-8 over that span — their best record over a two-season stretch since winning a total of 20 games from 2007-08.

Hartman joins a Notre Dame program with huge expectations in 2023. The Irish won nine of their final 11 games to end the 2022 season. Notre Dame has key returning players all over the roster, but is also expected to remain aggressive in the transfer portal for the rest of the cycle.
