Notre Dame came in at No. 10 overall in 247Sports’ college football team talent composite ranking, which was updated on Thursday morning.

The Irish trail 9 other elite programs across the country: Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Clemson, Texas, Oregon, LSU and Oklahoma.

Notre Dame is just ahead of programs like USC, Florida, Miami and Michigan, to name a few.

The ranking uses traditional recruiting rankings to measure every team’s total talent level. However, it does not account for transfer rankings — meaning safety Brandon Joseph is counted as a 3-star player (from his original high school ranking) rather than the 4-star transfer status he achieved this offseason.

Notre Dame is credited with two 5-stars, 49 4-stars and 29 3-stars. Notre Dame’s 5-star players are tight end Michael Mayer and linebacker Jaylen Sneed. Mayer is expected to be one of Notre Dame’s top players this season while Sneed could have a contributing role as a true freshman on Notre Dame’s defense.

Notre Dame’s status in these rankings could improve by next season. The Irish currently have the No. 4 overall recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Irish will begin their 2022 campaign on Saturday night vs. Ohio State.
