Notre Dame got some bad news on the recruiting trail on Friday afternoon as 4-star running back Sedrick Irvin Jr. announced his decommitment.

Irvin had been committed to Notre Dame since September of 2021. Here’s his announcement:

Irvin was the No. 21 overall running back in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He was also the No. 60 overall player from the state of Florida.

The Miami native has taken visits to Florida State and Miami in the past. It’s unclear if those programs — or other top teams — will be involved in his recruitment moving forward.

Notre Dame is expected to take 2 running backs in the class of 2023. The Fighting Irish are now back to square 1 at that position after Irvin’s decommitment.

However, Notre Dame continues to recruit well in this cycle. It still has 12 commitments in this class, which ranks No. 1 overall in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
