Notre Dame loses star freshman receiver to transfer portal
Notre Dame’s transfer portal exodus at the wide receiver position continues.
On Friday, it was freshman receiver Rico Flores Jr. who announced his plans to enter the transfer portal. Flores was a 4-star recruit in Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class and is coming off of a standout freshman season in South Bend.
Flores caught 27 passes for 392 yards and 1 touchdown. With Chris Tyree already announcing his plans to transfer, Flores was set to be Notre Dame’s leading returning wide receiver in 2024.

Flores and fellow freshman receiver Jaden Greathouse were both huge contributors to Notre Dame’s offense in 2023. At this time, it’s unclear if Greathouse will join Flores, Tyree, Tobias Merriweather and Braylon James in the portal.
Flores’ decision comes just a couple of days after Notre Dame fired wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey. As of now, Stuckey is the only position coach Notre Dame has parted ways with this offseason.
Notre Dame’s wide receiver depth is likely to be a major concern as the Fighting Irish prepare to play in a bowl game to close out the 2023 season.
