Notre Dame, Micah Shrewsberry land commitment from former Penn State starter

Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsberry recruited Kebba Njie, a 6-foot-10 forward, to State College out of the 2022 recruiting class. Njie then started 26 times in 37 appearances for Shrewsberry as a true freshman.

Now, Njie will play for Shrewsberry in South Bend.

The former 4-star recruit entered the transfer portal on April 3. On Saturday, he announced his commitment to Notre Dame. Njie will have 4 years to play 3 for the Fighting Irish.

Njie started in both of Penn State’s NCAA Tournament games last season. He had 8 points and 3 boards in 17 minutes to help the Nittany Lions beat 7-seed Texas A&M in the first round, but was held scoreless in 12 minutes in a 71-66 loss to 2-seed Texas in the Round of 32.

On the year, Njie averaged 3.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14.3 minutes a game. He s

hot 52% from the field and averaged a little over 1 block per 40 minutes. He was predominantly a 5 for the Nittany Lions. He was the only Nittany Lions freshman to appear in every game in 2022-23.

Shrewsberry will have to completely rebuild the frontcourt rotation this season, with only 1 player from last year’s group returning (Matt Zona). Njie should have the opportunity to make a sizeable jump from Year 1 to Year 2 in terms of his playing time.

He’s the second transfer addition since Shrewsberry was brought on board, joining former Northwestern guard Julian Roper II.
