Notre Dame moves up several spots in AP Top 25 after USC win
Notre Dame moved up in this week’s AP Poll after knocking off then-No. 10 USC on Saturday night in South Bend.
The Irish are now ranked No. 15 nationally, earning a six-spot jump after their big win over the Trojans. That’s the biggest jump up the rankings of any team in the top 25 this week.
Notre Dame’s big win means the Fighting Irish are now 6-2 on the season. They just wrapped up a stretch of facing four consecutive undefeated teams who were ranked inside the top 25.
Notre Dame’s defense, led by Xavier Watts, was excellent in Week 7. That unit limited USC’s offense to just 4.1 yards per play, which is the lowest output for a Lincoln Riley-coached offense since 2015 when he was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.
Watts had one of the best games any defender has had all season across college football. He picked off Caleb Williams twice, forced a fumble and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery as well.
Notre Dame will have its first of two off weeks in Week 8. Notre Dame will then host Pitt in Week 9.
