Notre Dame is now projected to be a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament, according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

Lunardi released his updated bracketology projection on Tuesday morning. He previously had Notre Dame as a No. 9 seed.

The Fighting Irish would play Murray State in the first round, if Lunardi’s prediction holds true. A win would likely seem them face No. 1-seeded Baylor in the round of 32.

Notre Dame is 17-3 in its last 20 games, a stretch that spans back to a win over Western Michigan on Dec. 20. It’s been a remarkable recovery for a team that started the season with a 3-4 record.

The Fighting Irish have slowly-but-surely worked their way off the NCAA Tournament bubble. They’ve surpasses other ACC programs like North Carolina, Wake Forest and Miami who will likely be sweating on Selection Sunday.

Notre Dame is one of five teams currently projected to make Lunardi’s Field of 68. Virginia Tech remains on the bubble in Lunardi’s “first four out” section.

Notre Dame faces Florida State on Wednesday night.
