Notre Dame OC rumors: Fans, media react to report that Byron Leftwich is a candidate
Notre Dame OC rumors are heating up.
On Monday, it was reported that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is a candidate to replace Tommy Rees at Notre Dame. Leftwich spent the last 4 seasons as the Bucs’ OC, which included their run to Super Bowl LV.
Leftwich, a former quarterback at Marshall and in the NFL, has been coaching since 2016. Before moving to Tampa Bay, Leftwich served in a variety of roles on the Arizona Cardinals’ coaching staff.
Notre Dame is expected to interview multiple candidates for the role, but Leftwich is an intriguing possibility for the Fighting Irish. According to the report from 247Sports’ Grace Remington, Leftwich proactively reached out to coach Marcus Freeman about the position.
247Sports’ Tom Loy also called Leftwich a “very real” candidate to land the job.
Here’s some of the reaction to the news that Leftwich could end up as Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator:
He went from turning down the Jags HC job to asking to be a college OC lol https://t.co/zi4WiJt0zV

So Byron's agent is trying to get traction for his guy. Thats cool. If @Marcus_Freeman1 going NFL, he should grab the OC with a top 10 career scoring efficiency mark in the nfl since 2000 & a QB MVP. BL not even close to his SE & Annual Progression https://t.co/oPGSAan0jD

Count me in on Byron Leftwich. My only concern when his name was brought up a few days ago was recruiting…but he’s young, has a dynamic personality, a name all recruits will know and has coached the perceived GOAT the last 3 years.
Hard to not be intrigued

As far as Byron Leftwich and the Notre Dame OC position. He has been a QB Coach and OC in NFL. My concern would be (& Other Coaches) is do you see the position as stepping stone back to the NFL? We need a guy that will be in job atleast 4 years (Hartman/TB/Minchey/ CJ) period!

Working with Tom Brady to working with Notre Dame’s Quarterbacks, Byron Leftwich would be a great addition.
