Notre Dame is jumping into the mix for one of the most sought-after wide receivers in the transfer portal.

On Monday, the Fighting Irish extended an offer to Kent State transfer receiver Dante Cephas.

Here’s that announcement:

He has also received offers from programs like Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia since entering the portal.

Cephas has been exceptional for the Golden Flashes over the past two seasons. In 2021, he caught 82 passes for 1,240 yards and 9 touchdowns in 14 games. This season, that overall production dipped slightly to 744 yards on 48 catches in 9 games.

In both seasons, Cephas averaged over 15 yards per reception. He has had big games against Power 5 opposition as well. He went for 151 yards against Maryland, 105 yards against Washington and 50 yards against Oklahoma in games over the past two seasons.

Receiver was a major weakness for Notre Dame in 2022, so finding help via the transfer portal would be a big boost for the Irish’s offense heading into next season. With tight end Michael Mayer expected to move on, Notre Dame will need to find or develop another top target in the passing game for next season.

Notre Dame is set to face South Carolina in the Gator Bowl later this month.
