Notre Dame got off to a great start vs. rival USC on Saturday night.

Xavier Watts picked off Caleb Williams on the Trojans’ first offensive drive of the game. Williams was facing some pressure from the Irish and floated a pass over the middle that was intercepted and returned deep into USC territory.

This was just Williams’ second interception of the season. For Watts, it was the third time he’s picked off a pass this year.

Here’s a replay:

Notre Dame needed just three offensive plays to take the early lead. Running back Gi’Bran Payne did the honors, catching a 4-yard pass from Sam Hartman for the game’s first points.

Notre Dame is hoping to avoid its third loss in its last four games this season. The Fighting Irish have suffered defeats to Ohio State and Louisville in the past few weeks. They also played a close game against a ranked Duke team on the road, but emerged with a win in the game’s final minute.

USC defeated Marcus Freeman’s team 38-27 last season in Los Angeles.
