Notre Dame puts 2 players on Pro Football Focus' midseason All-America team
Notre Dame had 2 players make Pro Football Focus’ midseason All-America team.
The 2 players were tight end Michael Mayer and left tackle Joe Alt. Mayer was selected to the midseason All-America first team. Alt was a midseason All-America second team selection.
Despite a 3-3 start to the season, Notre Dame has benefited from star players like Alt and Mayer being on the roster. Mayer, a junior, has emerged as one of the best tight ends in the country. He is a focal point in Notre Dame’s offense and his numbers reflect that. In 2022, Mayer has recorded 38 catches, 411 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. In Saturday’s loss to Stanford, Mayer caught 5 passes for a total of 60 yards.
On the offensive line, Alt has become a key piece for Notre Dame. Alt is in his sophomore season and he has become a fixture on the offensive line. After his freshman season, Alt received several awards for his standout 1st season at Notre Dame. Alt has continued to protect Notre Dame’s quarterbacks throughout the season.
Mayer and Alt have been 2 leaders in Notre Dame’s offense. This is the program’s 1st season under new head coach Marcus Freeman. Notre Dame will host UNLV in Week 8.
