Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner will miss the Fighting Irish’s spring game on Saturday do an ankle injury.

According to coach Marcus Freeman, Buchner sustained the non-football injury while walking down the stairs at Notre Dame’s facility.

While this is certainly a disappointment for Notre Dame fans who were hoping to catch an extended glimpse of Buchner on Saturday, it’s positive that this isn’t going to be a longterm injury.

“[Buchner] got 13 really, really good practices in,” Freeman told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m pleased with that part of it.”

Buchner is currently the favorite to win Notre Dame’s starting quarterback job this offseason. He’s competing with Drew Pyne, who is entering his third year in South Bend.

Pyne will now be the primary focus for fans and Notre Dame’s coaching staff on Saturday. Last season, he completed 15-of-30 passes for 224 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

The game will stream exclusively on Peacock.
