Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton falls out of top-10 in Mel Kiper Jr.’s final mock draft

Former Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton has seen a slight dip in his draft stock ahead of the 1st round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Hamilton had consistently been thought of as a potential top-5 pick, but his lack of positional value at safety and a disappointing 40-yard dash time has changed things.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. is projecting

Hamilton to fall to No. 13 overall in the first round. He has Hamilton landing with the Houston Texans. Here’s his analysis:

“Hamilton is my No. 4 prospect, but he’s likely to drop to this range because he ran a slower-than-expected 40-yard dash (4.59) and because teams just don’t value safeties as much as other positions. He’s a playmaker who could step in for Justin Reid, who left in free agency.”

The Texans are g

oing through a rebuild after trading Deshaun Watson this offseason. Houston is also picking at No. 3 overall in this draft.

Last season, Hamilton missed significant time due to a knee injury but still finished the year with 3 interceptions and 2 tackles for loss in 7 games.

The NFL Draft begins at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
