“To my coaches, this is not the end,” Foskey said in the video. “But a new beginning. The beginning of a run to a National Championship in the Freeman era. To my family, I love you with all my heart. This decision is for all of us and our future.

“To my teammates and brothers, the mission has always been to graduate as champions. The only way to complete the mission the right way is to run it back.”

Foskey’s announcement came on the same day that Notre Dame landed All-American safety transfer Brandon Joseph. Both players figure to have starring roles for the Fighting Irish’s defense in 2022.

Notre Dame’s defense also returns Jayson Ademilola and Justin Ademilola, who were second and third, respectively, in sacks for the Irish last season.
