Notre Dame fell 24 spots in CBS Sports’ updated power rankings this week.

This was the second-biggest fall for any program in the CBS Sports 131 this week. Only Baylor (25 spots) dropped more following its loss to West Virginia this weekend.

The drop was expected for Notre Dame following its stunning 16-14 loss to Stanford over the weekend. The Irish are now ranked No. 52 in the CBS 131.

Here’s some analysis from CBS’ Chip Patterson:

One week after a 14-spot surge back into the top 30, the Fighting Irish tumbled outside the top 50 following an upset loss to Stanford at home. Notre Dame will have a chance to get right with a favorable matchup against UNLV coming on Saturday, but that win won’t be enough to reclaim a spot near the top 25.

Notre Dame is now 3-3 on the season. The Fighting Irish have suffered 2 home losses this season despite being double-digit favorites in both contests.

Notre Dame’s margin for error in terms of making a bowl game is thinning. The Irish will likely be favored over UNLV, Navy and Boston College. However, losses to any of those teams would make it difficult for Notre Dame to reach 6 wins.

Kickoff against UNLV on Saturday is at 2:30 p.m. ET.
