Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius 5-star defensive tackle Justin Scott was set to announce his college commitment on Tuesday, Jan. 31, but that announcement has since been delayed.

Scott is one of the top prospects in all of the 2024 class. He announced a Top 8 earlier this month that included Alabama, Colorado, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC. Notre Dame is believed to be the frontrunner, and he’s still expected to visit the Irish this weekend. But a commitment will have to wait.

“I’m postponing my commitment until further notice,” he tweeted Tuesday.

At the time of publication, the 247Sports Crystal Ball is leaning heavily in Notre Dame’s favor. Both Irish Illustrated’s Tom Loy and 247Sports recruiting director Steve Wiltfong have logged predictions for the Irish to earn Scott’s verbal.

The decision to delay announcing a commitment could open the door for one of his other finalists to put the hard sell on, though.

A 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive lineman, Scott ranks as the 18th-best recruit in the Class of 2024, according to the 247 Composite. He’s the 4th-ranked defensive lineman and the top prospect from the state of Illinois.
