Notre Dame tight end Mitchell Evans will miss some of the 2022 regular season after undergoing foot surgery on Thursday morning, the program has announced.
Evans injured his fifth metatarsal during summer offseason training. However, Evans is “probable” to return to the field at some point this season.

Evans is Notre Dame’s backup tight end and was expected to provide solid depth behind All-America candidate Michael Mayer. Last season as a true freshman, Evans caught 2 passes for 21 yards.
Notre Dame still has some depth behind Mayer, though. Kevin Bauman returns after playing in 5 games last year and catching 1 pass. The Fighting Irish also have sophomore Cane Berrong and true freshman Eli Raridon.
Evans was a 3-star prospect in the class of 2021. He was the No. 23 tight end in the country for that cycle, according to 247Sports Composite rankings
