Notre Dame to be without starting defensive player for USC game

Notre Dame cornerback Cam Hart will not play vs. USC on Saturday night.

The program announced that news roughly 90 minutes before kickoff against the Trojans. Hart is dealing with an upper body injury.

Freshman receiver Tobias Merriweather will also miss this game with an injury. Every other player on Notre Dame’s depth chart is expected to be available.

Hart is a big loss for Notre Dame’s defense. Along with players like Benjamin Morrison and Brandon Joseph, he’s been a big part of an excellent Fighting Irish secondary this season.

Hart has 25 t

ackles, three tackles for loss and four pass deflections so far this season.

Notre Dame could turn to players like TaRiq Bracy or Clarence Lewis to start at cornerback for this game. Whoever plays in that role will have a tough test against USC — one of the most explosive passing offenses in the entire country.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
