Notre Dame moved up in ESPN’s 2023 recruiting class rankings.

In the latest set of rankings, Notre Dame had the No. 2 overall recruiting class in 2023. The Fighting Irish moved up 1 spot in the rankings, which places them behind only No. 1 Alabama.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman made a strong impression on recruits in his 1st season as a head coach. After succeeding Brian Kelly as Notre Dame’s head coach, Freeman managed to land the commitment of 2 top-60 recruits on offense and defense.

ESPN recruiting coordinator Craig Haubert explained why Notre Dame moved up in the most recent rankings.

“The Fighting Irish, who have inked two consecutive top-10 classes, are contending for their highest-ranked class in a decade. New coach Marcus Freeman has his fingerprints all over this class with multiple key additions on the defensive side of the ball.”

Notre Dame landed safety Peyton Bowen, who is the No. 14 overall recruit, and No. 60-ranked Braylon James. James, who is a wide receiver, is the top offensive recruit for Notre Dame. With more time left in the recruiting process, Notre Dame could finalize the program’s best recruiting class in the last 10 years.

The Early Signing Period will start up in December.
