Sam Hartman arrives in Notre Dame as one of the most experienced and prolific quarterbacks in the country.

The former Wake Forest star had an up-and-down season in 2022, but one thing was consistent: his ability to push the ball down field. According to Pro Football Focus, Hartman was 2nd nationally with 41 completions on throws of 20 yards or more.

Here’s the full top 5:

Creating explosive plays was not a strength for Notre Dame’s offense in 2022. The Fighting Irish finished the 2022 season tied for 69th in plays of 30 yards or more.

Hartman is the ACC’s all-time leader in touchdown passes with 110. He threw for a career-high 39 touchdown passes in 2021 as he led the Demon Deacons in the ACC Atlantic title.

No Notre Dame QB has ever thrown for that many TDs in a single season. Brady Quinn has the record with 37 touchdowns during the 2006 campaign. Quinn (who did it twice) and Ian Book are the only Fighting Irish quarterbacks to throw for more than 30 touchdowns in a season.

Hartman will be looking to break new ground in South Bend in 2023.
