Tyler Buchner reportedly mulling return to Notre Dame to play new sport

Tyler Buchner played 2 seasons at Notre Dame before transferring to Alabama after his offensive coordinator and position coach in South Bend, Tommy Rees, was named to the same position in Tuscaloosa.

Fast forward to Monday, when Buchner reportedly entered the transfer portal the 1st day it opened along with hundreds of college football players across the country.

The twist: he did so with the intent to hang up the pads and play lacrosse. And, according to Inside Lacrosse CEO’s Terry Foy

, Buchner will head back to South Bend to join the Fighting Irish men’s lacrosse team, the defending national champions.

Per Foy, Buchner won’t depart the Crimson Tide right away: they are in the College Football Playoff, after all, so he will wait until the season concludes and then leave.

But Buchner actually has a strong background in lacrosse: according to USA Lacrosse Magazine

, he committed to play the sport at Michigan in 2017 — as an 8th-grader — and was a highly-regarded player at the club level but ultimately decided to turn his attention to the gridiron.

Now, he reportedly will be back where his college career began, albeit in a much different sport than football.
