Tyler Buchner is reportedly behind at least 2 other passers in Alabama’s quarterback competition during fall camp.
Buchner entered the offseason in a competition with returning Alabama passers Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson. However, according to an update from the Tuscaloosa News’ Nick Kelly
, Buchner was the 4th quarterback to take reps in the Tide’s scrimmage on Saturday.
The former Notre Dame quarterback went after Milroe, Simspon and true freshman Dylan Lonergan, according to the report. Kelly’s report cited a source who said Buchner played well in the scrimmage, but he still has “a ways to go” to win the starting job.
Buchner transferred to Alabama earlier this offseason following the arrival of Sam Hartman in South Bend. He reunited with former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees in Tuscaloosa.
Buchner won Notre Dame’s starting job out of fall camp last offseason, but suffered a serious shoulder injury Week 2 that kept him on the sidelines until the bowl game.
Drew Pyne, another Notre Dame transfer from this offseason, is also in-doubt to start Week 1 for Arizona State
due to injury. He was reportedly in position to win the starting role before hurting his hamstring in fall camp.
