ESPN’s Desmond Howard went outside-of-the-box with his College Football Playoff predictions on Saturday morning.

Howard named 3 programs that have never reached the CFP along with his alma mater, Michigan, in his top 4 projection.

Michigan is joined by Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Baylor. He gave the prediction on the Week 0 episode of College GameDay.

Pittsburgh is one of the favorites to win the ACC, but the Panthers have never been particularly close to making the College Football Playoff. Last season, the Panthers finished No. 12 in the final CFP rankings after picking up a win the ACC Championship Game.

Pitt returns multiple key defensive players from last year’s squad, but will have to replace quarterback Kenny Pickett and receiver Jordan Addison. USC transfer Kedon Slovis was officially named the starting quarterback earlier this week.

Texas A&M and Baylor have also never made the CFP. The Aggies finished No. 5 in the final CFP rankings in 2020. The Bears nearly made the top 4 in 2014, but were edged out by Ohio State in the CFP committee’s final rankings.

Pittsburgh opens the 2022 season on Thursday vs. West Virginia.
