Kenny Pickett shines in NFL preseason debut with Steelers

Former Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett was excellent in his NFL preseason debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night.

Playing at his usual Acrisure Stadium, Pickett completed 13-of-15 passes for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 32-25 victory.

Perhaps more importantly, he led the game-winning drive over the Seahawks with this touchdown pass to Tyler Vaughns:

Pickett is in a battle for the starting job with veteran Mitchell Trubisky and longtime Steelers backup Mason Rudolph. Performances like this one will certainly help his effort to win the job on Day 1.

The Steelers took Pickett in the 1st round of last April’s NFL Draft. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist for the Panthers last season, leading them to an ACC Championship as well.

Here are some other highlights from Pickett’s first preseason game:

Pickett and the Steelers will play their second preseason game on Aug. 20 against the Jaguars. They will open the regular season vs. the Bengals on Sept. 11.
