Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi says he has ‘no doubt’ Virginia QB Brennan Armstrong will play this week

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi is expecting to see Virginia star quarterback Brennan Armstrong suit up this week.

Armstrong is questionable due to a rib injury he suffered in Week 9 in a loss to BYU. The Cavaliers were off in Week 10 and Armstrong did not play in Virginia’s loss to Notre Dame in Week 11.

Still, Narduzzi is confident the Panthers will see Armstrong on Saturday.

“I have no doubts in my mind he’s playing in the game,” Narduzzi said earlier this week. “I think you’d have to rip his rib cage out of his chest cavity for him not to play.”

This is arguably the most important game of Pitt’s season, and perhaps Narduzzi’s tenure with the Panthers. If Pitt wins, it clinches the ACC Coastal title and a spot i

n the ACC Championship Game.

If Virginia wins, it will be in the driver’s seat heading into the final week of the regular season.

When healthy, Armstrong is one of the very best quarterbacks in the ACC. He was on pace to smash Deshaun Watson’s ACC single-season passing record before the injury, and he still might be able to top it with a few strong games down the stretch.

Armstrong has thrown for 3,557 yards and 27 touchdowns in 9 games. He’s also a threat on the ground, rushing for 271 yards and 7 additional scores so far this year.

Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
