Pitt has fired offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. after two seasons with the program.
Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi announced that decision on Sunday afternoon. He released a statement acknowledging Cignetti’s contributions to the program.
“I want to thank Frank for his service and dedication to our football program the past two years,” Narduzzi said. “We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
Pitt’s offense has struggled over the past two seasons. After the Panthers won the ACC in 2021 with Kenny Pickett under center, their offense has regressed under Cignetti. This season, Pitt’s offense averaged j
ust 5.33 yards per play — just the 10th-best mark in the ACC.
Pitt ended the 2023 season with a 3-9 record. It’s the worst record of Narduzzi’s tenure and the first time the Panthers are not bowl-eligible since 2017.
Pitt will now head into the offense looking for a new offensive coordinator as it attempts to re-establish its identity on the offensive side of the ball.
