Pitt QB Kenny Pickett breaks Dan Marino’s program record for passing TD’s in a season

Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett now stands alone atop the Pitt record books.

Pickett’s second touchdown of the game vs. Syracuse on Saturday afternoon gave him 38 on the season, one more than Dan Marino’s 37 — a record that had stood since 1981.

Pickett went on to throw for 4 touchdowns vs. the Orange, giving him 40 on the season. Here’s the one that broke Marino’s 40-year-old record:

Pickett also holds Pitt’s single-season record for passing yards with 4,066. He previously beat out Rod Rutherford’s mark that had stood since 2003.

Pickett is on the cusp of breaking another Marino record: total touchdown passes for a career. Both Pickett and Marino currently sit at 79, with Pickett likely to go ahead of the legendary quarterback in next week’s ACC Championship Game. Pickett already holds the Pitt record for passing yards in a career.

The Panthers are 10-2 and will face Wake Forest in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday.
