Former LSU DB transferring back to Syracuse after season with Tigers

Duce Chestnut transferred from Syracuse to LSU for the 2023 season. He has decided to go back to Syracuse for the 2024 season.

Chestnut took to social media to announce his transfer decision less than 1 week after entering his name into the portal.

Chestnut did well in his first stint at Syracuse. He was named a Freshman All-American by multiple outlets in 2021, when he started all 12 games for the Orange. Chestnut recorded career-highs of 43 total tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 8 pass breakups and 3 interceptions.

In 2022, Chestnut was again a 12-game starter. He logged 40 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, 2 p

ass breakups and 1 interception for a touchdown.

Chestnut appeared to decide that he would not be spending multiple seasons at LSU early into the 2023 campaign. He last played on Sept. 23 against Arkansas. By participating in only 4 games, Chestnut can take a redshirt for 2023, giving him 2 full seasons of remaining eligibility.

Chestnut is not with LSU for Monday’s ReliaQuest Bowl game in Tampa against Wisconsin.
