JJ Starling has committed to Syracuse, he announced on Tuesday morning.

The former Notre Dame guard didn’t take long to evaluate his options after entering the transfer portal earlier this week. He’ll now be the face of a Syracuse program that is led by 1st year head coach Adrian Autry.

Starling was a 5-star prospect in the class of 2022. He was excellent for the Fighting Irish as a true freshman, earning all-rookie honors in the ACC. He averaged 11.2 points per game for Notre Dame this past season.

Starling’s transfer will see him move much closer to home. He’s a native of Baldwinsville, New York.

According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Starling also received interest from programs such as Alabama, Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana and UCLA, amongst others.

Without Jim Boeheim, Syracuse is entering a major transition phase as it looks to re-gain its status amongst the best teams in college basketball. Picking up a player like Starling is a major win for Autry and his staff at Syracuse.
