Joseph Girard III, Syracuse guard, announces plans for 2023-24 season

Joseph Girard III has seemingly played his last game for Syracuse.

On Friday, the shooting guard announced via Twitter that he will continue his dream of playing basketball “at the highest level.” Girard will enter the 2023 NBA Draft process, while also maintaining his college eligibility. The shooting guard has one year of eligibility remaining due to the Covid-19 pandemic waiver.

At the same time Girard announced his intentions to proceed to the draft while maintaining his eligibility, he also announced that he would be entering the transfer portal. According to the guard, he wished to “keep his options open and gather as much information as possible.” Either through the NBA Draft, or transfer, it appears that Girard is finished in Syracuse.

It’s a tough loss for the Orange, as Girard was SU’s leading scorer this past season averaging 16.4 points per game. The shooting guard was also known for his 3-pointer drops, averaging 38% accuracy in his senior season. His 297 3-pointers over his career with the Orange is good enough for 3rd all-time in Syracuse history.
