Oronde Gadsden II announces plans to return to Syracuse for 2024 season

Oronde Gadsden II is returning to Syracuse for his senior season.

The star playmaker announced that decision on Tuesday morning. Gadsden, who missed almost all of 2023 with an injury, was eligible to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. Gadsden also likely would have been able to enter the transfer portal and move to a top program for 2024.

Instead, he’ll play for Fran Brown and the Orange in 2024. Here’s his announcement:

“After careful consideration and talking to my family and coaches, I’ve decided to come back for my senior year at Syracuse,” he wrote in-part. “I love ‘Cuse and what we’re building here. I can’t wait to get healthy and run it back in the Dome in 2024.”

Capable of playing tight end or wide receiver, Gadsden will e

nter next season as one of the ACC’s top playmakers. His best season with the Orange came in 2022 when he caught 61 passes for 975 yards and 6 touchdowns. He’s likely to be the top target for new Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord.

It’s been a big offseason for Syracuse, who hired Brown to replace Dino Babers. Brown has brought in a number of high-profile transfers so far this offseason and now will retain one of the program’s top players for 2024.

The Orange went 6-7 this season.
