Syracuse announces coach Dino Babers will return in 2022

Syracuse coach Dino Babers will return for another season in 2022, the program announced on Monday morning.

Athletic director John Wildhack made the announcement at a press conference. Babers parted ways with multiple assistant coaches on Sunday, including offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert.

Babers just finished his sixth season with the Orange. He has a career record of 29-43 and has made just one bowl game during his tenure.

Still, his 2018 season that gave Syracuse its first 10-win season since 2001 is apparently enough to earn Babers another year.

Syracuse lost three ACC games by exactly three points and arguably deserved better than its 5-7 record. The Orange’s offense was led by running back Sean Tucker, who paced all ACC players in rushing yards this season.

Tucker was critical of Syracuse’s offensive play calling after the team’s loss to Pitt over the weekend. It’s unclear if Tucker intends to return to Syracuse next season.

Syracuse has played in one bowl game since 2013.
