Syracuse basketball is off to a historically slow start

Syracuse is off to a rough start so far this season.

The Orange have begun its 2021-22 campaign with a 7-7 record, which is reportedly the worst start of the Jim Boeheim era. That’s according to Syracuse.com’s Mike Waters:

Syracuse’s most recent loss was a 88-87 road defeat against Miami. The Hurricanes are solid this season and moved to 4-0 in the ACC play with the win, but the Orange desperately need to start stacking wins.

Syracuse currently sits at No. 72 nationally according to KenPom.com’s live rankings. That mark will have to improve significantly — along with Syracuse’s 1-2 ACC record — if the Orange hope to make the NCAA Tournament.

Boeheim has led Syracuse t

o the Big Dance in 10 of its last 12 opportunities. Syracuse hasn’t missed the Tournament since the 2016-17 season.

Buddy Boeheim was supposed to be Syracuse’s best player, but he’s been an inefficient scorer so far this season. He’s shooting just 32.6 percent from 3-point range and his true shooting percentage his dipped below 54 percent. Both those numbers are significant decreases from his marks last season as a junior.

Syracuse faces Wake Forest on the road on Saturday.
