Syracuse beats Virginia, improves to 4-0 on the season

For the first time since 2018, Syracuse is 4-0.

The Orange defeated Virginia 22-20 on Friday night thanks to a field goal in the final minute from kicker Andre Szmyt. He went 5-for-5 on field goals vs. the Cavaliers, a

nd Syracuse needed every one of them to earn the win.

Syracuse’s offense was solid for the most part on Friday night, but struggled in the red zone. The Orange managed just 1 touchdown in the game — a rushing score from quarterback Garrett Shrader.

Shrader struggled at times in this game, but he moved the ball enough for Syracuse to win the game. He threw for 277 yards on 33 attempts. He also threw one interception.

Running back S

ean Tucker was mostly held in check. He carried the ball 21 times for 60 yards and had an uncharacteristic fumble in the first half — which Virginia failed to turn into points. Tucker was also Syracuse’s second-leading receiver with 45 yards on 5 catches.

Syracuse is now cruising towards bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018. The Orange won 10 games in that campaign, by far their best season under head coach Dino Babers.

Syracuse hosts Wagner in Week 5.
